Houses of Hope
Living Hope Ministries International also supports the building of new houses for widows in the community.
The widow who receives a new house then hosts church services on Sundays. Here is the first service at a brand-new House of Hope. It is a perfect example of the house church described in Acts 2.
Walk the streets of our community, Oyuma, and you will meet dozens of women who have lost their husbands and must find a way to support themselves. Widows are an important part of rural Kenyan society. They are always the sweetest, most hospitable people in the world. It is easy to stop and listen to their stories for hours. With our guiding verse, James 1:27 telling us to care for widows, we strive to care for their physical, emotional and most important, their spiritual needs. The widow in the picture is Doris. She lived in an 8’x8’ mud hut with almost no roof. We brought her food, clothes and most importantly a new house. Church services and Bible studies provided for her spiritual needs.
Living Hope Ministries International works with Kenyan nationals to identify communities that need a new evangelical church. In that community, they find a widow such as Doris. We put these needs together and along with American mission teams, we build a House of Hope.

Our guiding verse, James 1:27 reminds us of the importance of ministering to widows. The most important way of helping widows is to care for the young grandchildren they have been forced to take in when their own children passed away. Most widows can barely support themselves, much less a houseful of children.
We also provide for widows each time we visit Kenya. We provide for their spiritual needs with Bible studies and physical needs by providing basic supplies.
We have built over 20 Houses of Hope. One of the latest was for Mama Doreen and her six grandchildren. When we were there, we held the first service for Ayego Baptist Church under one of her shade trees. Twenty-five people prayed to receive Christ. Our prayer is to return and build a new church building. For more information see the Ayego Baptist Church page.
As the house nears completion, a dedication sermon is preached and everyone attending is invited to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Kenyans and Americans affectionately called mzungus, work together to build a new house.
